I have a Medtronics Sprint Fidelis lead implanted. It is possible that it is defective and has killed others alrady. It worries me for several reasons.
1. I often wake up to my eight-year-old hugging me and crying in the middle of the night. He's just checking to see that I'm still there. It drives me crazy, I can think of nothing else than this defective computer causing my death like it has others. Absolutely kills me.
2. I was never consulted before the devices was implanted. Nor did I have a choice of which brand I preferred. I praise my Doctor for saving my life, but the choice she made in equipment may now cause my demise. She was unaware of that when she made the selection.
3. My ejection fraction has increased for 25% to 42%. One doctor close to my case said that they reccommend defibs for 35% or less. He either misread or ignored my test results when refusung to remove the device. (Who's going to remove the device for $800?*)
4. It has been reported in the media that there are questions as to how physicians were compensated for recommending the manufacturer of the ICD.
5. *There are also reports that Medtronics will pay physicians only $800 to have the device removed. No wonder no doctors are willing to remove my killer Medtronics ICD.
6 It appears that removing the device and leaving the leads in place and capping them is a viable solution to my problem. Thens there's the $800.*
7. When my doctor called me in to warn me of the problem,
he stated uncategorically that there is no recall. Understated the 42% ejection fraction, scheduled me for a device reprogramming and charged me $400 for the explanation and @250 for the reprogramming.
I'd like the killer device removed and the leads capped. Does anyone have a lead on a doctor that might be willing to consider the removal?
